Brakspear Seasonal Ale programme 2004
Boadicea hits the spot for Brakspear
Leaf Fall is Brakspear’s honey-coloured seasonal cask ale for Autumn.
Brewed by Brakspear Brewing Co in Witney, Oxfordshire, this 5.1% abv beer has a rich, malty flavour and warming hoppy aroma from a newly developed English hop variety, Boadicea. This revolutionary new hop is the world’s first aphid-resistant variety which means it has potential as an organic hop in the future.
Jeremy Moss, the Head Brewer for Brakspear, has blended black malt for depth, with wheat and oats for a subtle and warming brew. The golden syrup notes are balanced by the Boadicea hops which give an almost liquorice bitterness.
Jeremy comments:
“It is exciting to be one of only three brewers in Britain to be using this fascinating new hop. I wanted to produce an Autumnal beer with real complexity and I’m very pleased with the results.”
