Whirlygig – Yet another award winning beer from Wychwood
WHIRLYGIG is the latest addition to Wychwood brewery’s ‘World of Wychwood’ portfolio, and yet another award-winning beer!
WHIRLYGIG (4.5% abv) has been chosen as one of only four finalists in the 2005 Asda Beer Competition and is now on shelf in ALL ASDA STORES.
Head Brewer, Jeremy Moss, comments:
“WHIRLYGIG has bags of citrus fruit and is luxuriously smooth and malty with a delicate Ruby colour. It combines a frenzy of pale & crystal barley malts with the merest hint of black malts, and then whirls them together with England’s Fuggles & Goldings hops to create a full-bodied classic English Ale.”
Whirlygig was brewed as a seasonal cask ale for Wychwood in 2002, but this is the first time it has ever been available in a bottle.
WHIRLYGIG’s success in the Asda beer competition follows the recent success of Wychcraft (4.5% abv), which has already won a place on Tesco’s beer shelves after beating over 70 other breweries to win “Best Beer” in the Tesco Brewing Awards, 2005
In keeping with the Wychwood Brewery’s unique brand imagery, the labelling for Whirlygig indulges in ancient folklore, depicting a “Red Cap” Goblin, one of the most wicked and evil of all faeries/elves. The Red Cap is murderous, with a sordid capacity for bloodthirst. He drinks the blood of his victims, then dips his hat in the blood, giving rise to the name of “Red Cap”.
