Brakspear’s more-than-organic Growth
Brakspear Organic Ale is the fastest growing, biggest selling organic beer brand in Britain with distribution in Waitrose, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Asda at £1.69 per 500ml bottle. It is bottle-conditioned, “real ale in a bottle”, growing at an impressive 161% year on year, and suitable for vegetarians.
Winner of the Soil Association’s Organic Beer of the Year award in 2003, this turbo-hopped 4.6% abv organic gem has been a serial award-winner since its launch in 2000 and has been brewed since June 2004 at its new home, the Wychwood Brewery in Witney, Oxfordshire.
The beer uses Brakspear’s historic yeast to ferment a blend of organic pale ale and crystal malts, with organic Goldings hops from Belgium in the copper and with organic Kent Target hops added late-on for the finish.
The result is a wonderful floral aroma riding on a rich, orange-accented body in an almost ruby coloured beer. The brew also uses Brakspear’s historic ‘double drop’ fermentation system, which is the only of its kind in full-time use in Britain. This system stirs up Brakspear’s special yeast and creates great complexity of flavour.
Brakspear Organic Ale is excellent drunk alongside full flavoured foods such as ripe cheeses, patés, bbq’s foods, steak or rich stews.
Wychwood Brewery’s sales director James Coyle comments:
“As consumers become more discerning and interested in the integrity of the products they buy, bottle-conditioned Brakspear Organic Ale fully meets this demand - as evidenced by all the positive letters we are receiving. It’s an exciting success story for a very special beer.”
